ETCHING AND EMBOSSING (2-22-12)

Explore etching and embossing on copper or brass, using stamps and chemical washes. Make two unique and beautiful pendants or earrings.These techniques are a great addition for the multimedia designers bag of tricks.

VIKING KNIT BRACELET (3-3-12)
SATURDAY, MARCH 3rd - 10:30am-3pm

Learn an age old art – from the Vikings no less! Using a dowel and fine gauged wire, create a “knitted” tube and then pull thru a draw plate for a flawless tightly woven chain. You can easily turn this into a simple bracelet or necklace and the option to add decorative beads, opens it up to endless possibilities. This project is mostly knitting and takes a few hours to complete so plan on spending a while. You might want to bring a snack.

METALSMITHING - BASICS OF SOLDERING(3-5-12)(3-8-12)
MONDAY, MARCH 5th & THURSDAY, MARCH 8th – 6pm
Students will learn the basic chemistry and set-up for soldering and how to set up a minimal soldering operation for under $100. Peter Senesac will explain solders, fluxes, pickling acids and fire scale as well as annealing and work hardening, the use of various torches, types of joins, applique’, sheet and wire. Peter will also give demos and students will solder jump rings. Students will have tech samples & handouts for future reference and there will be hands-on practice. This is a great preliminary class if you want to take other metalsmithing classes or if you are thinking about setting up your own studio. All levels.

WIRE WRAPPED PENDANT (3-6-12)

Explore the art of wire wrapping. Using time tested techniques and square wire, you will sculpt a setting for a cabochon gemstone into a beautiful, uniquely yours pendant.

You will have many choices of cords and beads to embellish with.
This fun and easy project will get you well on your way

SQUARE WIRE RING 3-13-12

You will be working with square wire to sculpt a ring and embellish it with beads. This is a lovely, classic ring band design with many variations to the theme.

DOMED & TEXTURED PENDANT & EARRING SET (3-14-12)
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14th - 6pm

Use a wonderful variety of tools in this information-filled class! We’ll cover several cold working techniques using sheet metal and blanks. Doming blocks, disc cutters, bench blocks and chasing hammers are just a few of the versatile tools we’ll get to play with to create this easy earring and pendant set! And, for one last spark of creativity, we’ll get to play with Gilders paste and liver of sulfur to create a great luminescent luster on the metal. Come to have fun and learn all kinds of new tricks with new tools!
