WHAT’S NEW?
New gemstones and seedbeads have been arriving at a swift rate here and we are all working to get them priced and on the floor quickly!!
We have also received a shipment of beautiful hand beaded baskets from a company called the Gaiya Tribe. The baskets are from Indonesia and are produced by women as a cottage industry. The baskets are exquisite and we are happy to support this excellent endeavor.
We are now carrying Beadalon flexible stringing wire in an effort to offer a lower cost alternative to soft-flex. We will still be carrying the soft-flex as well. Check out our other Beadalon products such as the cool wooden desk organizers!
NEW TEACHER PROFILE
Diana Kirkpatrick is teaching the Tapestry Needle Woven Necklace class. Diana comes to Avalon with a long history in jewelry-making and related arts.
“I began to study jewelry techniques seriously in the mid-1970s with classes in lapidary arts and silversmithing. After earning a PhD in chemistry, I became fascinated by Middle Eastern dance and in the 1980s I began a long term love affair with this wonderful dance form. Eventually, I left my career in chemistry to dance professionally and start my own dance costuming business. I created costumes and accessory pieces using my beading and jewelry making skills. In the 1990s, I expanded my work into bead weaving and needle weaving as well. Several years ago I sold my costume business to devote all my time to my first love – jewelry and jewelry making.
